7 Sweatshirts for Every Fall Mood

Welcome to our Editorial Intern, Serena Chmelar, a second-year student majoring in Psychology and minoring in Entrepreneurship at the University of Virginia! Serena is also a member of the Varsity Women’s Rowing Team and in her free time is an avid fashion and lifestyle blogger. As a member of the College Scoops team, Serena will write about college life – from fashion trends, to study tips and hot topics around campus – sharing her stories with our entire community. Fall is officially upon us ladies! Time to break out those Pumpkin Spice Lattes, your favorite fall candles and, you guessed it, your best fall sweaters. Fall weather can be extremely different depending on where you go to school, but wherever you are, you need at least one sweater. Since every day comes with a different mood, I’ve compiled 7 of the best sweaters and sweatshirts for all of your fall moods.

1. When you want to look cute…

Sometimes you wake up on the right side of the bed! If you’re having one of those days when you wake up and decide to put on a presentable, dare I say–trendy–look for everyone, this sweater from Aritzia is perfect. Animal print is absolutely the look of the season, so this sweater will have you right on-trend. Pair it with a pair of cropped straight jeans and white platform sneakers to complete the look.

2. When you feel lazy…

With the good days also come the lazy days. Maybe you pressed snooze one too many times or you just don’t have the energy to get dressed up. This sherpa pullover from True Grit will have your back on these kinds of days. These pullovers come in an assortment of colors (I personally love this burnt orange for fall) and are made from the softest sherpa fabric you will ever feel. Throw this pullover on with a pair of leggings or joggers and prepare for the comfiest day ever.

3. When your wallet is not looking too hot…

At the end of the day, we are college students and sometimes our wallets win the battle. When you’re in a financial bind, but still want to look cute and stay warm, opt for this sweater from Shein. I saw this sweater all around campus last year and it’s not leaving anytime soon. This sweater is guaranteed to receive compliments while not breaking the bank.

4. When it's cold…

If you go to school in the north or somewhere that starts to get cold early, this Patagonia quarter zip is perfect for you. I have worn this sweater alone in freezing temperatures and stayed warm. It is made with the fuzziest fabric that is also on the inside of the sweater. This quarter-zip truly makes it feel like you’re wearing a blanket. It is slightly more form-fitting than the True Grit pullovers so it will keep body heat in.

5. When you’re chilling at home…

When your day is finally winding down and you just want to sit in bed and watch Netflix, opt for this oversized Champion hoodie. This sweatshirt will keep you warm and comfy. It is perfect for nights in, but can also be worn to class with leggings! These Champion hoodies are super popular as they come in a variety of different colors and are very long-lasting.

6. Best to dress up…

This sweater is perfect for dressing up and looking a bit more professional. If you have an interview or need to wear business casual attire for a presentation or event, this sweater will keep you looking polished and also keep you warm. I specifically chose this camel color because I think it would look great with a white or light blue collar popping out. This might not be the outfit you choose to wear every day, but the look overall is professional and sleek.

7. When you’re feeling active…

If you’re trying to squeeze in your last couple runs outside before winter hits, this Lululemon hoodie is ideal for you. This is a form-fitting hoodie that will keep you warm when it starts to get cooler but won’t suffocate you. Wear it for a run or just to class! I love this black camo print paired with a cool colored pair of leggings.
